Movement has sent 13 tons in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from the Federal Government

Yesterday morning (12/06), another shipment of food produced by agrarian reform, was sent to Gaza for families affected by the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. A total of 11 tons of food were sent, as part of the new contributions to international humanitarian assistance efforts.

“We are sending a second donation of food to the Palestinian people because we believe in international solidarity. The Palestinian people, like all people fighting for sovereignty, need the solidarity of other peoples around the world,” signaled Jane Cabral, from the MST’s national leadership. The first shipment made in October included rice, corn flour and milk. “The food we donate is a symbol of our action in Brazil and a reaffirmation of our solidarity with the Palestinian people,” concluded Jane.

The MST’s initiative to donate food to Gaza intends to be ongoing, with new shipments stemming from the partnership with the federal government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dispatched via Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft.

The MST’s action is part of a series of initiatives by popular movements and organizations in Brazil in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who have suffered the humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s bombings. Actions, marches, festivals and a series of activities in Brazil are a part of the larger agenda of solidarity and calls for an immediate ceasefire in the region.

Despite the arrival of trucks with supplies in Gaza, the humanitarian situation remains critical and the needs of the Palestinians are unprecedented, according to UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. According to the agency’s spokesperson, Adnan Abu Hasna, 200 trucks a day would be needed for two months in order to respond to the needs of the population in the region, which still has areas, for example, without access to clean water.
